Making Tax Digital Readiness Check — Are You Prepared?
Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax Self Assessment applies from April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with income over £50,000. MTD for VAT is already mandatory. This quick assessment checks whether your current software, record-keeping and processes are ready — and flags what you need to fix before the deadlines arrive.
What MTD means for you
MTD requires you to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC using compatible software. Spreadsheets alone will not be sufficient unless they are linked to bridging software. If you use Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent or Sage, you are likely already set up for MTD-compatible filing — but your record-keeping practices may still need adjusting to meet the digital record requirements.
