The Tax-Free Income Stacker — Every UK Allowance for 2026/27
The UK tax system has more tax-free allowances than most people use. Personal Allowance, dividend allowance, savings allowance, trading allowance, property allowance, ISA allowance, pension annual allowance, capital gains exemption, and Marriage Allowance. Most people use only two or three. This tool lets you stack them all and see how much income you could potentially shelter from tax.
How to use
Tap each allowance to add it to your visual stack. The total updates automatically. Tap the arrow on any allowance to see a full explanation of what it covers, who it applies to, and any conditions. Not all allowances can be used by the same person, so check the details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use all these allowances at once?
Not necessarily. Some apply to everyone (Personal Allowance, ISA), some only to specific situations (trading allowance for side income, property allowance for rental income, Marriage Allowance for couples where one partner does not use their full Personal Allowance). The tool lets you select the ones relevant to you.
What is the trading allowance?
The trading allowance gives you £1,000 of tax-free trading income per year. It is useful for casual selling, small freelance jobs, or side income. You cannot claim the trading allowance and deduct expenses on the same income — it is one or the other.
Does the Personal Savings Allowance change by tax band?
Yes. Basic rate taxpayers get £1,000 tax-free interest. Higher rate taxpayers get £500. Additional rate taxpayers get nothing. The tool shows the basic rate figure and explains this in the detail panel.
Why is the pension annual allowance so large?
The pension annual allowance (£60,000) is the maximum amount of pension contributions that receive tax relief in a year, not tax-free income. It includes employer contributions. It is tapered for adjusted income over £260,000.
